The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) has established rules for membership based upon student’s outstanding performance in the areas of character, scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and service.

Character: A student who demonstrates integrity, courtesy and respect, embracing moral and ethical principles.

Leadership: A student leader is one who proposes solutions to ever-changing problems; demonstrates strong decision making skills and has a positive attitude.

Citizenship: A student who understands the importance of civic involvement; demonstrates maturity and responsibility through participation with their school and community.

Service: A student who participates in out-of-school activities, volunteering and helping others.

Scholarship: A student who displays academic excellence in rigorous coursework and meets the academic requirements. Sierra Vista’s Charger Notebook states that membership in the National Junior Honor Society requires that a student achieve a GPA of 3.5 in 7th grade each trimester in the 4 core classes with no “N’s” or “U’s” in citizenship. This average must be maintained in 8th grade.

NJHS members are required to attend and participate at all meetings. Meetings dates and time TBD. Members will be required to complete 20 points of volunteer service at Sierra Vista and outside Sierra Vista throughout the school year (information will be given at the first meeting).

Upon acceptance, members and their families are invited to the NJHS Induction Ceremony. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Escobar or Mrs. Gordon with any questions.

Thank you,
