Charger Families,

School is almost upon us!  If your summer has been anything like mine, you have had an incredible time traveling and experiencing new adventures both near and far.  And, I’m sure you’ve made wonderful memories with your families, spending lots of extra time together over the past few months.  And with that, I’m sure you’re also ready to get your kids back to school so they have a structured routine that allows them to grapple with important content while they make strong relationships with others. The anticipation of a new school year brings on so much hope and emotion, and the same rings true for all of us who will be working closely with your kids throughout the year.

As the excitement builds in your household, please remember our website is a great resource that has all important dates and other information.  For a quick glance at some of our Frequently Asked Questions, click here.  And, here is some of that important information I wanted to bring to the forefront:

STUDENT SCHEDULES (FINAL VERSION)

We have been working throughout the summer on building our Master Schedule and making sure students are placed in the appropriate classes.  Final schedules will be available--with teacher names and classroom numbers--on Wednesday, August 17th at 4 PM on the Parent Portal.  Click here for directions on how to view schedules.  Please print a copy or handwrite it out so your child knows where to go throughout the day.  We will not change any student’s schedule based on their desire to have a certain teacher, period, or elective.  The only changes we will make to schedules will be for those students who are missing a class or who have a placement error.

If you believe there is a missing class or placement error after viewing your child’s schedule on the 17th, please submit this Google Form so we can further examine things.  We will make corrections in advance of the first day of school, and they will be reflected on the Portal in real time.

FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL

We have a staggered start to the year here at Sierra Vista to help give our seventh graders more of a soft entry into middle school.  As such, only 7th graders should report to school for a Minimum Day on Thursday, August 18th.  They should head directly to their Advisement classroom and be there on time for 8:00 AM.  8th graders have their first day of school on Friday, August 19th.  This full day will start in Advisement for both grade levels, and they should report directly to those classrooms for 8:00 AM.

WELCOME VIDEO

Our staff is eager to get your students on campus as we work to provide them the highest quality educational experience we can envision.  Your students mean the world to us, and we are so thankful to be able to build relationships with them that mean just as much to us as they do to your kids.  To help make our incoming families feel all the more connected to us, take a look at this video so you become familiar with all the great people who will be partnering with you during your time here at Sierra Vista.

CHARGE THE WAY!

Here at Sierra Vista our core values are: Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity. As students prepare to come to campus, we want them to be ready to demonstrate these values each day so they can be successful not only academically, but also socially as they move about campus. Please use this link to view our Student Handbook which details our expectations.  One of our more important rules centers around technology use so please know that students should have their phones off and away during school hours so they can focus on their learning and in-person experience.  Should you need to communicate with your children during the school day, please contact the Front Office.

HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP

In closing, I want to take the opportunity to thank you for sharing your students with us.  We have a great team of caring, thoughtful professionals who are always willing and wanting to help.  If there’s anything we can do to support your child’s experience here at Sierra Vista, please let us know.  The home-school partnership is critical for student success, and we look forward to joining forces through PTSA and other means of connection.
